History of Chocolate
There’s historical evidence that chocolate was used in ancient cultures that date back as far as 1900 BC. It’s widely believed that it was used by the Mayans who mixed ground cacao beans with additional spices turning chocolate into a bitter unsweetened drink. Cacao beans were considered so valuable, that they were used as currency. Spanish traders introduced chocolate to Europe and there ground cacao was mixed with sugar and transformed into other forms to enjoy. Chocolate became so popular that it was considered a symbol of wealth and status. You can read more about the origin of chocolate here.
