How to Make the Best Cherry Danish with Cream Cheese Glaze Recipe

Sweet rolls and pastries are always a pleasing addition to the breakfast or brunch menu. They pair equally well with a steamy cup of coffee, hot tea, or a glass of cold milk, if you are so inclined.  I really love making and serving them.

  • Ingredients you’ll need to make homemade Cherry Danish: Frozen dinner rolls dough (i.e. Rhodes or similar) cherry pie filling, granulated sugar, large egg and melted butter.
  • To make the Cream Cheese glaze you’ll need: Softened plain cream cheese, powdered sugar, almond extract, milk or cream and softened butter.
  • Kitchen tools you’ll need: A stand mixer or a hand mixer, large silicone mat or non stick surface for rolling, measuring cups and spoons, sharp knife, small bowl, sheet pan and pastry brush.
  • The dough used for this recipe is unbaked. They’re frozen rounds of yeast dough that require rise time prior to baking. Don’t make the mistake of buying rolls that are already formed and can be baked immediately, it won’t work for this recipe.
  • You can have fun with this recipe using different flavors or pie filling, the sky’s the limit!
  • Whipped cream cheese tends to be lighter in texture and easier to drizzle once mixed with the remaining ingredients. You can use classic cream cheese and increase the amount of liquid if needed to bring it to drizzle consistence.
  • Store Cherry Danish chilled in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Enjoy cold or gently heat for a few seconds in the microwave. They would be best served straight from the fridge.
