Fresh green beans cooked this way traditionally begin with bacon. Some cooks may also use cured ham or country ham to season the beans and add a pop of flavor. Regardless, there’s no contest when it comes to flavor they’re all delicious. This combination of seasonings was excellent and we really loved this version of green beans and new potatoes. I was feeding a lot of people so I used my large Dutch Oven and added more potatoes. It was perfect and the potatoes were just the right tenderness without getting soggy in too much broth. Loved this dish!

I’ve made this recipe several times! It gets better and better each time I make it! So easy! One pot wonder

  3. Hi Beth, I bet she did, every Momma and Gramma made this usually fresh from the garden. I still love it, and at times just HAVE to have it. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  4. This sounds and looks AMAZING, Melissa! Just like something my mom probably made me and my brothers years ago. Can’t wait to try it!

  5. Yumm Melissa, I have had something similar to this from another southern girl friend on mine. Loved the bacon flovor! As always, so nice of you to share:)

  6. Hi Jenise! You can use frozen green beans, or canned green beans if you like. Make sure the canned green beans have been thoroughly rinsed to remove the “canned” flavor. They’ve also been cooked previously, so you’ll need to adjust your cooking time. Frozen green beans are a great substitute in a pinch. Not exactly the same as fresh, but still tasty. 🙂
