Caramel Drizzled Praline Apples

Ingredients

  • 8 large apples cored, ends removed and sliced ⅜ inch thick [ I used Gala]
  • 8 Tbsp butter divided
  • cup apple cider or apple juice
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
  • tsp salt
  • tsp nutmeg
  • ½ cup roughly chopped pecan pieces
  • 1 cup prepared dulce de leche or quality caramel ice cream topping warmed

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Melt 2 Tbsp of butter, cube the rest. Swirl the melted butter to coat the bottom and sides of a 10-inch cast iron skillet or similar.
  • Arrange the apple slices evenly in the skillet overlapping. Drizzle the apple slices with apple cider.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the apples. Arrange the pecans and cubed butter on top.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until fork tender and golden.
  • Warm the dulce de leche in a microwave safe bowl and drizzle on top.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.
