5ozgarlic and herb Boursin cheese or Alouette cheese
8slicesbaconcut into thirds
1/4-1/3cuphot honey, pure maple syrup or classic honey
chopped green onions or fresh chives for garnishing
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet pan with foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray. (If using an oven rack or broiler pan, spray the rack with cooking spray.)
Use a sharp knife to cut bacon strips into thirds.
Slice each date lengthwise without cutting all the way through, and remove the pit. Stuff with 1 teaspoon of Boursin cheese. Press to close.
Wrap each date with 1/3 strip of bacon, then skewer with a toothpick. Place seam side down onto the baking pan. Repeat the process with the remaining dates.
Place the pan into the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or just until the bacon is crispy.
Serve immediately drizzled with honey or maple syrup, garnished with green onions or chives. Serve with additional honey and maple syrup, on the side.
Notes
Protein - You can also wrap these dates with prosciutto in place of bacon.
Cheese - You can use tangy goat cheese, feta cheese, chive and onion cream cheese or blue cheese for stuffing the dates.
Nuts - You could add roasted pecan halves, a whole almond or walnuts to the cheese stuffing for crunch.
Use Classic Thin Sliced Bacon - Thinly sliced bacon works best for these dates, there's no need to use thick bacon. The baking time won't be enough for thick-cut bacon to cook perfectly crisp.
Medjool Dates Can Vary in Size - No two dates are exactly the same size so adapt the amount of cheese used, based on the size of the actual dates.
