12 1/2 ozpacket active dry yeast (or bread machine yeast)
pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, sausage, pepperoni basil for topping (Use any toppings you like!)
Instructions
Add the dough ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order given (beginning with the wet ingredients then moving on to the dry ingredients) OR as recommended by your manufacturer.
Select the dough setting (dough cycle) and start the machine. Check after a few minutes to be sure the ingredients have combined. If the dough seems too wet, add additional flour 1 Tbsp at a time. If too dry, add warm water 1 Tbsp at a time.
Let the dough cycle complete. (Mine takes 90 minutes, this can also vary from brand to brand). Remove bread pan from the machine.
Once finished, the dough should be soft, stretchy, and slightly tacky. Turn dough ball out onto a lightly floured work surface and divide dough ball into two equal portions. If you like a thicker pizza crust, skip this step.
Press onto a pizza pan brushed with olive oil or a pizza stone dusted with cornmeal. Use a rolling pin or your hands to stretch and pat the dough into a 12-inch circle. (If using all of the dough, press onto a rimmed 17-inch sheet pan in a rectangle or pat into a 16-inch diameter circle.)
Preheat oven to 450°F. Spread pizza sauce on the crust and add your favorite toppings.
Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until puffed, golden brown around the edge and cheese has melted. Adjust cooking time according to how your home oven bakes.
Slice and serve.
Notes
Flour - I'm partial to the texture that bread flour gives to pizza dough. that said, you could make this recipe with all purpose flour or a combination of wheat flour and all purpose flour.
Toppings - Top this pizza dough with marinara sauce, alfredo sauce, tomato sauce or barbecue sauce for a barbecue chicken pizza.
Veggies - Add sliced onion, peppers, black olives, mushrooms and fresh herbs like basil, chives and parsley.
Protein - Use crumbled Italian sausage, pepperoni, bacon, grilled chicken, ground beef, steak or any of your favorites.
Spices - You can add dry Italian seasoning, garlic, black pepper or oregano to the dry ingredients for a seasoned crust.
Thick or Thin Crust - If you like a thinner crust, you can get two pizzas out of this recipe. If you prefer a thick crust, one 16 inch pizza.
Calzones - You can make calzones using this pizza dough. Simply fill and pinch the edges to seal then bake per the recipe.
