1/4tspeach salt and black pepperadjust amount to taste
chopped fresh parsley for garnishing
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly spray a 13x9-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
In a large bowl combine the ground beef, onion, eggs, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, black pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined.
Form the mixture into 6 oval-shaped patties and place them in the prepared baking dish.
Transfer to the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until cooked through and juices have run clear and collected in the pan.
Transfer the hamburger steaks to a plate and tent loosely with foil to keep warm.
On the stovetop in a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour, stirring to combine for 1-2 minutes.
Whisk in pan dripping and beef stock. Add salt and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer then lower the heat and let bubble and thicken for 5 minutes.
Return the hamburger steaks to the baking dish and spoon the gravy over the top.
Sprinkle the top with fresh parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the gravy.
Notes
Don't Overmix the Hamburger - You can use your hands or a rubber spatula to combine the beef mixture. Either way, it's important to mix gently to avoid dense steaks.
Ground Beef - Use ground beef with some fat for better flavor and moisture. Shape patties evenly for consistent cooking. Do not overbake to prevent dryness.
Protein - You could adapt this recipe using ground chicken or ground turkey,
Side Dishes - We love these with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the gravy.
Mushroom Gravy - Your cold sauté sliced mushrooms in butter before adding the flour. When doing so, adjust the amount of liquid, as needed.
Thicken the Gravy to Taste - If you'd like a thicker gravy, once combined, whisk in additional flour or cornstarch dissolved in cold water to thicken further. Likewise, for a thinner gravy add more beef stock.
Worcestershire Sauce - You could use steak sauce or soy sauce.
