How to Make the Best Homemade Hot Chocolate Recipe

It’s important of using high-quality chocolate to enhance the richness and taste of the homemade hot chocolate mix. You can experiment with different types of chocolate, such as dark or milk chocolate, to cater to various flavor preferences.

  • To make a cup of hot cocoa, to each cup of hot milk add 2 heaping tablespoons of hot cocoa mix and stir until dissolved. If you choose to make this with hot water, you may need additional hot chocolate mix for richness. (Milk will create a richer hot chocolate flavor.)
  • Microwave Preparation: Heat 6 fluid ounces of water or milk in a microwave-safe mug for 1 1/2-2 minutes or until hot. Stir in 2-3 tablespoons of hot cocoa mix. (Equal to one packet or envelope of hot cocoa mix.)
  • Does it matter what kind of cocoa or chocolate bar you use? You can use any brand that you enjoy, but a good quality chocolate is highly recommended. I prefer Ghirardelli for both the cocoa and grated chocolate.
  • Can I use different varieties of chocolate bars? Yes! Actually, I make a container for the
kids with milk chocolate then I make myself a container with dark chocolate.
  • How do I store this hot chocolate mix? Store in an airtight container or a mason jar for up to 3 months.
  • Can the snowmen be made ahead of time? Yes, you can make them in advance. Store them in an airtight container until you’re ready to use up to 7 days beforehand. Please note, the pretzels may soften.
  • You may opt to use orange sprinkles or a tube of orange cookie icing for the nose in place of jelly beans.
  • You could even add a fun colorful scarf using fruit roll-ups to the snowman, if you wish.
  • How do you finely chop the chocolate bars? You can use a food processor, the fine grater on a boxed grater or a citrus zester.
