Tips for Making Pineapple Cherry Dump Cake

  • Kitchen Tools You’ll Need: A 6 quart crockpot or similar, a medium bowl and a small bowl to melt the butter, a large spoon to scoop it out of the crockpot for serving.
  • Know How Your Appliance Cooks: Crockpots vary wildly in how they cook depending on shape, age and manufacturer. Get to know your appliance and how it works and make adjustments to cooking times as needed.
  • Why Use Paper Towels? Crockpots a.k.a slow cookers, are a moist cooking environment. The purpose of the paper towels is to prevent the condensation that forms on the lid from dripping back into the cake batter.
  • Use Your Favorite Cake Mix: You can use your favorite brand of cake mix such as Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker or a private store brand for this easy dump cake recipe.
  • Slow Cookers Bake Differently: The top of this cake may not be quite as brown as it would be when baked in the oven, but the edge should become golden brown while baking in the crockpot.
  • How to Serve Dump Cakes: Dump cakes are much like fruit cobblers and make the ideal opportunity to add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for serving. You can also top it with whipped cream.
  • When to Serve Dump Cakes: This kind of dessert is terrific for busy days, entertaining, picnics, cookouts and the holidays.

    1. You can double it. The cooking time may need to be adjusted depending on the shape of your slow cooker. Check it at the original time stated in the recipe and add from there.

  1. Hi Melissa,

Is the cake suppose to be prepared as the back of the box calls for and then dumped into the slow cooker? Or is it just the dry cake mix that is poured into the slow cooker? Thanks!

    1. This cake is designed to be scooped from the crockpot and served. If you want to remove it in one fell swoop, you’ll need to line your slow cooker so it will lift out.
