Tips for Making White Chocolate M&M Cookies
- Kitchen Tools You’ll Need: A stand mixer or a hand mixer, measuring cups and spoons, medium bowl, large bowl, rubber spatula, cookie scoop or small ice cream scoop and baking sheets, wire rack.
- Don’t skip softening the butter. When you bring the butter to room temperature and allow it to soften it ensures the butter will blend evenly with the remaining ingredients. Cold butter will not blend properly and will cause the cookies to bake unevenly. Salted or unsalted butter will work, but I typically bake with salted butter for the best flavor profile.
- Add the M&M’s Last: Add the white chocolate chips to the batter first, and stir through the dough thoroughly before adding the M&M’s. By doing this, the coating on the M&M’s will be less likely to crush and break.
- Why Chill Cookie Dough? It’s important to chill the dough to allow the butter to firm after combining with the rest of the ingredients. If you chill it longer than 1-2 hours you may need to allow some time on the counter to soften to make it easier to scoop.
- Add More After Baking: After removing from the oven immediately press additional M&M’s onto the tops of each cookie. The warm cookies should melt the coating just enough to stick.
- Reshape the Cookies: Gently reshape any oddly shaped cookies while warm. You can do this using the side of an offset spatula gently pushing toward the center of the cookie to make the shape more uniform.
- Cool on the Pan: Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for at least 5 minutes before removing to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Recipe Variations
- Christmas Cookies: You can turn these into Christmas cookies using red and green M&M’s.

Storage and Leftovers
- Leftovers: Store M&M White Chocolate Chip Cookies (Valentine’s Day Cookies) in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. Pour a tall glass of milk and enjoy.
- Freezer Storage: You can also freeze this cookie dough for up to 3 months. I highly recommend dividing the dough into rounds and freezing on a parchment paper lined sheet pan. Once the dough mounds are solid, transfer them to a freezer container or bag. Doing so, you can bake as few or as many, as you like.
- Freezing Baked Cookies: You can freeze these cookies for up to 2 months. Thaw and enjoy!
