How to Make the Best Cinnamon Roll French Bread

This easy bread has a rich and buttery flavor and is one of those sweet treats meant for sharing with family and friends.

  • Ingredients you’ll need to make homemade Cinnamon Roll French Bread: One 16 ounce loaf fluffy French or Italian bread, butter, light brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • For the glaze you’ll need: Powdered sugar, heavy cream and vanilla extract.
  • Kitchen tools you’ll need: A sheet pan, sharp knife and cutting board, small bowl, knife or icing spatula to spread the filling onto the bread, measuring cups and spoons.
  • The bread used in this recipe is one of those inexpensive fluffy loaves from the grocery store bakery.
  • If you need to make it in advance to save time, you certainly can. I recommend slathering each half with the cinnamon butter then wrap separately with plastic wrap. Chill until you’re ready to bake. This can be done up to 1 day in advance.
  • When you’re ready to bake, uncover and place onto a parchment lined cookie sheet and bake according to the recipe. The butter, brown sugar and spices melt into the bread and flavor it beautifully. When baking from cold, you may need to lengthen the baking time by 5 minutes or so.
  • How do you serve Cinnamon Roll French Bread? Once baked, mix up the easy vanilla cream glaze and drizzle it on top. Slice and enjoy with a cup of coffee or hot tea.
  • Store baked Cinnamon Roll French Bread wrapped in foil in the refrigerator. Reheat gently in the microwave in single serving portions.

  1. My cinnamon sugar topping all ran off the bread when baking? Where did I go wrong? I did use all dairy free ingredients (earth balance butter, silk next milk instead of heavy cream).

    1. Hi Kelly, it shouldn’t have done that as the recipe is written. It may be that the adaptations made needed a bit of tweaking. Maybe the butter? Otherwise, it shouldn’t have.

I make cinnamon rolls from scratch all the time and my kids love them but it’s a lot of work. I made this but did made a cream cheese frosting instead and they LOVE it!! So much less mess and my daughter can make it because it so simple!! Try it!! Bought Italian bread from the Walmart bakery for $1!

I was VERY surprised at how yummy this turned out. I hate wasting food and my family almost never uses an entire loaf of French bread. They devoured this in one sitting.

Wow! Searched for a recipe to use up some $1 french bread that was about to so stale and found this. I am my family’s hero after making this yummy bread. Thanks for a delicious, inexpensive, and easy recipe!

    1. I can’t wait to try this but when u said u had an about stale loaf of French bread I wanted to tell u I always make croutons with that. I think I would get 2 loaves, a fresh one for the cinnamon bread and one from the marked down section for croutons lol *seriously, homemade croutons are the best if u have never had/made them 👩‍🍳

    1. No, just as in the picture, the glaze is drizzled on top of each half. If you’d like to do it that way you could, of course.
