Recipe Variations, Tips and Substitutions

  • Cook the Rice in Advance – One terrific time saver with this dish is that the rice needs to be cooked in advance and chilled. Doing this keeps it from over cooking and becoming mushy when stir fried with the teriyaki beef.
  • Rice – You could adapt this recipe using jazmine rice or brown rice. Due to the starch content each variety cooks slightly differently. Adjust as needed.
  • Ground Beef – You could make this fried rice using ground pork, ground chicken or ground turkey. You could also use steak, chicken breasts, chicken thighs or pork cut into bite-size pieces.
  • Teriyaki Sauce – I highly recommend using teriyaki sauce for this recipe, but you could adapt using soy sauce if that’s what you have on hand. When doing so, you may need to taste and adjust the amount to your taste.
  • Veggies – There’s no need to thaw the petite peas prior to adding them to the pan. You could also use broccoli, mushrooms, red bell pepper or carrots.
  • Lower Carb Option – Trying to skip the carbs?  You can make this recipe using cauliflower rice instead.

Storage and Leftovers

  • Leftovers – Store cooked Teriyaki Beef Fried Rice in an airtight container chilled in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating – Reheat individual servings in the microwave or in a saucepan over medium heat. Add beef stock or water to add moisture when reheating.
  • Freezer – You can freeze leftovers for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge and reheat just before serving.

Made this tonight and everyone loved it. Instead of making the egg strip, I just scrambled them off to the side and then mixed it after it cooked.

Fabulous! Delicious. I’m a foodie and picky kids. I made it with sushi rice, served it as a cup of rice parted with the teriyaki beef in center. Everyone gobbled it up…and none of my kids like peas. I also did not have teriyaki and used Trader Joe’s Island Teryaki. You’ve got to feel comfortable improving a bit…loved it! Thank you!!!

Love this recipe! Super easy to prepare, not a lot of extra ingredients. I modified by embellishing a box I had on hand of frozen Ling Ling fried rice adding some additional plain brown rice as well.

  4. I love this dish, thanks for sharing, I took out the beef and added ground chicken instead as we don’t eat beef, but everything else I left as is, and it was a super hit.
