Taquitos Recipe
This Taquitos Recipe can be made using shredded chicken or shredded beef for a crispy and insanely delicious Mexican meal or appetizer. I’ll show you how to make these using the classic preparation method plus Air Fryer instructions are included!
Easy Chicken Taquitos Recipe
These taquitos have to be one of our favorites to make and eat. This recipe demonstrates how to make them using rotisserie chicken for ease of preparation. You could also make them using leftover shredded pot roast to make kicked up shredded beef taquitos. How to make simple Chicken Taquitos: (Scroll down for full printable recipe.)
- Filling – In a medium bowl, mix together chicken, green chiles, seasoned salt, granulated garlic, cumin and lemon pepper until combined.
- Tortillas – Warm tortillas in the microwave for 20 seconds.
- Assemble – Lay tortillas on a flat surface and sprinkle each with 1/2 of the shredded cheese.
- Divide chicken mixture evenly between tortillas topping with reserved shredded cheese. Roll rightly ending seam side down.
- Fry – (See Cook’s Note for Air Fryer Instructions) Heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large 12 inch skillet over medium high heat. Fry taquitos for 2-3 minutes turning for even browning. Remove from the skillet using a slotted spoon or spatula to a paper towel lined pan.
- Serve- Serve immediately with salsa, guacamole, sour cream or crema or any of your favorite toppings.
How to Make the Best Taquitos Recipe
- Ingredients you’ll need to make homemade Chicken Taquitos: Corn tortillas, rotisserie chicken, green chiles, granulated garlic, seasoned salt, lemon pepper, cumin and shredded colby jack or pepper jack cheese.
- Kitchen tools you’ll need: One medium bowl, measuring cups and spoons, sheet pan, 12 inch skillet and slotted spoon to spatula.
- You can use any cooked chicken in this taquitos recipe. Roasted chicken, poached chicken, grilled chicken or you could adapt using the same amount of pot roast.
- To add more spice, use pepper jack cheese in place of colby jack or cheddar cheese for the filling.
- When frying the taquitos, being seam side down. This should seal the tortilla and prevent the taquito from separating.
- Use a spatula to carefully turn for even frying we don’t want them to come apart in the pan
- To save calories, you can use an oil mister or cooking spray and a grill pan to “fry” the taquitos.
- Store cooked Chicken Taquitos chilled in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in an air fryer or on a sheet pan in a 375°F oven until crisp. You can also reheat in single servings in the microwave.
How to Make Air Fryer Taquitos
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
- Prepare and assemble the taquitos per the recipe.
- Spray on all sides with cooking spray or an oil mister.
- Arrange seam side down in the basket of the air fryer sprayed liberally with cooking spray. Leave space around each taquito to allow for air to circulate.
- Air fry for 4-5 minutes per side stopping to flip halfway through cooking. Spray any dry spots with cooking spray.
- Serve topped with your favorite taco condiments and fixings.
