How to Make the BEST Banoffee Pie Recipe

  • Key ingredients you’ll need to make homemade Banoffee Pie: Crushed vanilla wafer crumbs, salted butter, granulated sugar, dulce de leche i.e. La Lechera or similar, 4 medium bananas, heavy cream, pure vanilla extract and grated milk chocolate bar i.e. Hershey’s or similar.
  • Kitchen tools you’ll need: 9-inch springform pan or similar deep dish pie pan, stand mixer or hand mixer, measuring cups and spoons, cheese grater for the chocolate, offset spatula and mixing bowls.
  • You may opt to top this caramel banana pie with whipped topping such as Cool Whip in lieu of whipped cream. Whipped cream isn’t as stable so it’s perfectly fine to use your favorite prepared whipped topping.
  • The dulce de leche I use in this recipe is usually found on the Latin foods aisle. It comes in a can similar to condensed milk so read the label carefully.
  • You can use the same amount of graham cracker crumbs for the crust, if that’s your preference. It won’t change the amount of butter or sugar needed to make the crust.
  • Make an effort to fully cover the banana slices with caramel and whipped topping to prevent oxidation.
  • How do you keep bananas from browning? You can toss the bananas with a small amount of lemon juice to delay the process of browning.
  • Dulce de leche is made by boiling sweetened condensed milk until it has caramelized. If you’d like to make your own see my recipe for Homemade Dulce de Leche Caramel made in your crockpot.
  • You can store Banoffee Pie covered and chilled in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
