Ingredients to Make Bacon Cheeseburger Stromboli Recipe

This is what happens when the family wants burgers for dinner, but you don’t have hamburger buns on hand. After serving it once, this bacon cheeseburger stromboli is requested as often as traditional burgers on a bun. It’s a fun bread to make, and the kiddos can get in on dinner prep, too.   • Pizza Dough: One tube refrigerated pizza dough i.e. Pillsbury Classic or similar.
  • Ground Beef: One pound of lean ground beef or ground sirloin.
  • Bacon: Six slices of crispy cooked bacon adds smoky flavor.
  • Oil: Olive oil to cook the beef or you can use the bacon drippings.
  • Onion and Garlic: Sweet onion and garlic enhance the flavor of the meat.
  • Seasonings: Garlic salt  or table salt and garlic powder, black pepper and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Condiments: Ketchup and Mustard for drizzling the hamburger meat.
  • Pickles: Diced dill pickles add a briny flavor and adds texture.
  • Cheese: Two cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
  • Garlic Butter Topping: Melted butter mixed with garlic salt.
  • Garnish: Sesame seeds to sprinkle on the dough.

How to Make the BEST Bacon Cheeseburger Stromboli Recipe

  • Heat Oven and Prepare Baking Pan – Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line sheet pan with parchment paper.
  • Cook Ground Beef – In a large skillet over medium-high heat cook beef and onion in 1-2 tablespoons olive oil until no pink remains. Add garlic and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.
  • Add Seasonings – Season with garlic salt and pepper. Mix well. Drain excess fat from pan.
  • Dough – Refrigerated Pizza Dough Press or roll pizza dough stretching into roughly a 12×16-inch rectangle.
  • Cheddar Cheese – Sprinkle crust with cheese. Arrange the cooked ground beef mixture and bacon over the cheese. Drizzle with ketchup and mustard.
  • Dill Pickles – Arrange pickles over meat mixture then sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  • Roll the Pizza Dough – Begin rolling from the widest edge ending seam side down. Transfer to baking sheet.
  • Garlic Butter – Brush the top and sides with garlic butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and sesame seeds.
  • Oven – Bake per the recipe until the top is golden brown then slice and serve.

Tips for Making Cheeseburger Stromboli

  • Kitchen Tools You’ll Need: Large sheet pan, skillet, sharp knife and cutting board, cheese grater, measuring cups and spoons.
  • Refrigerated Pizza Dough Is Quick and Easy: This recipe was designed for ease of preparation hence the use of refrigerated pizza dough. It’s formulated to bake quickly and fully, so it really is the best crust to use for this recipe.
  • Use a Silicone Mat: If you have a silicone baking mat, it’s helpful for moving the stromboli from the counter to the pan for baking.
  • Make-Ahead Tip: To save time, the ground beef can be cooked one day in advance, and refrigerated until you’re ready to assemble.
  • Eyeball the Ketchup and Mustard: I don’t measure the ketchup and mustard for this recipe. This is one of those moments you “eyeball” the amount. The amounts in the recipe should be used as a guideline and can be easily adjusted.
  • Serving Options: You can divide this stromboli into 1-inch intervals to serve as an appetizer or game day snack or cut it into bigger pieces for dinner size.

Ingredients

  • 1 13.4 oz can refrigerated pizza dough i.e. Pillsbury Classic
  • 1-2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium sweet onion small dice
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp garlic salt plus additional for the top
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 slices bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 1/4-1/3 cup ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 Tbsp dill pickles small dice
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Topping:
  • 1 Tbsp butter melted
  • 1/4 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Have nearby a sheet pan lined with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat.
  • In a large skillet cook beef and onion in 1-2 tablespoons olive oil. Cook over medium-high heat for 6-8 minutes or until no pink remains. Add garlic and Worcestershire sauce, cook for 1 minute longer. Season with garlic salt and pepper. Mix well. Drain excess fat from pan.
  • Assemble: Press or roll pizza dough stretching into roughly a 12×16-inch rectangle.
  • Sprinkle crust with 1 cup of shredded cheese. Arrange the cooked ground beef and bacon over the cheese. Drizzle with ketchup and mustard.
  • Top with chopped dill pickles then sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  • Begin rolling from the widest edge shaping as you go, ending seam side down. Transfer to baking sheet.
  • Brush the top and sides with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and sesame seeds.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  • Rest for 5 minutes, then cut into desired size slices and serve.
