We’re a family who loves soups and stews. While there are a plethora of delicious crackers on the market to enjoy, there’s something extra special about making seasoned crackers yourself. It’s much more fun and you can customize the flavor to your taste. During the holidays, they’re terrific for homemade gift giving especially appealing to those who may not have the ultimate sweet tooth.   • Heat Oven and Prepare Pan – Preheat the oven to 250°F. Have nearby a large rimmed baking sheet.
  • Spices and Oil – Whisk together the oil, packet of ranch, dill, lemon pepper and garlic powder until seasonings are dissolved.
  • Oyster Crackers – Add the oyster crackers and Parmesan cheese.
  • Combine – Mix with a large spoon until evenly coated.
  • Transfer to Baking Pan – Spread on the baking sheet.
  • Oven – Bake per the recipe, stirring halfway through. 
  • Cool completely then store in an airtight container.

  • Ingredients you’ll need to make homemade Ranch Oyster Crackers: 1/3 cup vegetable oil or canola oil, one 1.0-oz packet dry Ranch dressing mix, one teaspoon dry dill, one teaspoon lemon pepper, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, two 9-oz bags Oyster crackers, 2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Kitchen tools you’ll need: Large bowl, large rimmed baking sheet, measuring cup, measuring spoons and whisk.
  • Why are they called oyster crackers?  They’re a small round or hexagonal shaped cracker that contains similar ingredients found in saltine crackers. They’re bite sized, and famously served with oyster stew or clam chowder. There are no oysters in oyster crackers.

  • Variations: You could add crushed red peppers flakes or use spicy ranch dressing for more spice. You can omit the Parmesan cheese with no other adjustments needed. Experiment with other dried herbs like Italian seasoning or use Cajun seasoning or taco seasoning for a twist.
  • Substitutions: You could use goldfish crackers, saltine crackers or cheez-it crackers in place of oyster crackers.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil or canola oil
  • 1 1.0-oz packet dry ranch salad dressing mix i.e. Hidden Valley
  • 1 tsp dried dill weed
  • 1 tsp lemon pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 9-oz bags Oyster crackers
  • 2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250°F. Have nearby a large rimmed baking sheet.
  •  In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the oil, packet of ranch, dill, lemon pepper and garlic powder until seasonings are dissolved.
  • To the bowl add the oyster crackers and Parmesan cheese. Mix with a large spoon until evenly coated. (Alternately pour into a large plastic storage bag and shake until coated. 
  • Pour the oyster crackers mixture onto the baking sheet. Place into the oven and bake for 20 minutes, stopping to stir halfway through. 
  • Cool completely then store in an airtight container for up to one week.
