Tips for Making Chicken Parm Stromboli
- Kitchen Tools You’ll Need: A large sheet pan for baking, parchment paper, sharp knife and cutting board, measuring cups and spoons, a knife or offset spatula to spread the pizza sauce, a cheese grater, small bowl for the melted butter and a pastry brush.
- Use Breaded or Roasted Chicken: I use rotisserie chicken in this recipe to keep prep to a minimum. That said, you could also use breaded fried chicken breasts, chicken tenders or chicken strips that have been cooked and chopped for the filling, if you like. Chop chicken into bite-sized pieces or use shredded chicken .
- Refrigerated Dough is a Tasty Timesaver: This recipe was designed to use an easy-to-find tube of refrigerated Pillsbury pizza dough. Not only does it bake quickly, but it also cooks all the way through and should not result in underdone dough.
- Press and Shape the Dough as You Roll: That being said, when preparing the pizza dough for filling, make sure you press dough evenly when forming it into a rectangle for the best end result.
- Don’t Add Too Much Sauce: When assembling the stromboli, don’t go overboard with the pizza sauce. You can always serve additional on the side for dipping. If you add too much, it won’t bake evenly.
- Serving Suggestions: Serve as an entree with a green salad or slice into thinner slices and enjoy as an appetizer or game day snack.

Recipe Variations
- Cheese Substitution: In place of the mozzarella, you could also use an Italian cheese blend of shredded provolone or asiago cheese, to expand the flavor profile.
- Season the Dough to Taste: This is one of those instances in cooking that I never measure the seasonings for the top. Eyeball the amount of garlic salt and Italian seasoning to suit your taste.
- Seasonings: In place of garlic salt you could use one half teaspoon salt and one half teaspoon garlic powder.
Storage and Leftovers
- Leftovers: Store leftover Chicken Parmesan Stromboli in an airtight container chilled in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheating: Reheat gently in the microwave or on a sheet pan in a 350°F oven just until heated through. You can also reheat in a 325°F air fryer.
- Freezer: You can freeze leftover wrapped in plastic wrap and aluminum foil for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge and reheat just before serving.
