Easy Fried Green Beans Recipe
How do you blanch green beans? First, you start with whole fresh green beans that have been trimmed on both ends. Drop the green beans into salted boiling water and let them cook for 3-4 minutes or just until they're bright green. Remove them from the boiling water and immediately transfer them to ice water to stop the cooking. Now that the green beans have been blanched, they're ready for the dredging station and frying.
How to Make the Best Fried Green Beans
- Ingredients you'll need to make homemade Fried Green Beans: One pound fresh green beans, all purpose flour, Italian seasoned breadcrumbs, large eggs, Cajun seasoning, salt, black pepper, granulated garlic, onion powder, hot sauce, grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh chives or parsley for garnishing, vegetable or peanut oil for frying and Ranch dressing or garlic aioli for dipping.
- Kitchen gadgets you'll need: A large stock pot, sharp knife and cutting board, cheese grater, three shallow bowls, a whisk, frying thermometer, large Dutch oven or similar heavy bottomed pot for frying, tongs, stainless steel spider and a paper towel lined sheet pan.
- Different brands of Cajun seasoning will have varying amounts of sodium. It's perfectly fine to use your favorite blend or one that is readily available such as Zatarain's or Tony Chachere's. Depending on the brand you choose to use you may need to adjust the salt in the dredging ingredients.
- Panko breadcrumbs are a delicious crispy breading but don't stick quite as well to the green beans as it does other vegetables with a larger surface area. It could be the shape of the green beans. Should you try to adapt this recipe using Panko I just wanted to mention that for your consideration.
- Can you make this recipe in an air fryer? Yes, you can! Air Fryer Crispy Fried Green Beans:
- Follow the recipe for blanching and coating the green beans.
- Spray on all sides with an oil mister. Arrange in a single layer in the basket of an air fryer.
- Fry in batches at 375°F for 5-7 minutes or until crispy and golden. (Check at 5 minutes and coat any dry spots on the breading with additional oil.)
- Serve immediately.
- Traditionally fried green beans are best prepared and eaten immediately. Should you have any leftover, let them cool completely then store chilled in the refrigerator. You can reheat them in an air at 365°F for a few minutes to crisp or in a preheated 375°F oven in a single layer on a sheet pan.
