Recipe Variations, Tips and Substitutions
- Protein Substitutions – Depending on your diet you could replace the ground beef with ground turkey or ground chicken for the slider filling. You could also adapt this recipe using hamburger patties.
- Cheese – I use classic cheddar cheese for the edible “glue” for these rolls. You can also adapt using colby cheese, monterey jack cheese, American cheese or pepper jack cheese slices. Use your favorite flavor of sliced cheese. Whatever cheese you enjoy on a cheeseburger will work.
- Slider Rolls – While I make this particular recipe with those irresistible Hawaiian sweet rolls, you can use mini slider rolls, butter-style Hawaiian rolls or potato rolls, if you prefer.
- Use Sweet Pickles or Dill Pickles – You can use classic dill pickles or bread and butter pickles for these sliders, according to your personal taste.
- Use a Quality Steak Seasoning – The flavor of the ground beef filling is directly affected by the quality of the steak seasoning that you use. Use a quality seasoning blend that you enjoy, and adjust the amount for the best end result.
- Toppings – You can add lettuce, sauteed mushrooms, or tomatoes after baking, if desired.
- Side Dishes to Serve with Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders – You can serve these sliders along with Southern baked beans, sweet potato wedges, homemade french fries or homestyle macaroni salad or potato salad.
- Cut Apart for Serving – To serve these slider rolls, use a sharp knife to cut along the edges then separate into individual sliders and enjoy. Avoid pulling them apart or the cheese could pull the filling.
Storage and Leftovers
- Make-Ahead Tip – You can fully assemble these slider rolls one day in advance, then wrap in aluminum foil and place into the refrigerator. When doing so, wait to brush with butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds just before baking.
- Leftovers – Store baked Bacon Cheeseburger Hawaiian Sweet Rolls Sliders in an airtight container chilled in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Reheating – Reheat in single servings in the microwave or you can reheat several at one time in an air fryer or on a sheet pan in a 350°F oven.
- Freezer – You can cool and freeze sliders wrapped in plastic wrap and aluminum foil for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge and reheat just before serving.

These were a complete hit in my house!! I doubled the recipe to make 24 sliders instead of 12 so we could have leftovers for lunch the next day. I’m coming to find the recipes that I make from this website are absolutely delicious. Making something new tonight, Lemon Chicken Pasta!! Can’t wait. Thank you for all your awesome recipes!!
I’m so happy you enjoyed this, thank you!
Have you ever prepped these the day before and then just threw them in the oven day of?
Yes, you can! Assemble them, wrap in foil and refrigerate. Wait and brush with butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds just before baking. It works beautifully.
Help. My oven doesn’t work where I live so I only have a toaster oven, microwave and crockpot. Lol I know it’s sad. But do you think this would work in a crockpot? Obviously I’m sure I couldn’t make as many at a time. Maybe half. But I was thinking it should have the same outcome
I’ve never made these in a crockpot. You could likely do a half batch in your toaster oven, though. It sounds like you may be used to adapting for it so, adjust the baking time as needed.
Sooooooo good! Loved by everyone!
Thanks so much!
Hi! I can’t wait to try these! But can I make them ahead of time and assemble later when needed?
You can fully assemble, cover and chill. Wait and brush with butter just before baking.
Can’t wait to try thing I just put it in the oven! I used 24 rolls!!
We love these, hope you do, too!
Hi. Yummy! I am making this today and have enough to double thw recipe. (Only had a pack of 24 rolls in the store.) Should i freeze the extra meat and rolls separately or
just make all of them and freeze? Best way to freeze? Thanks, Jen
I would freeze them separately then assemble when you want to enjoy them again.
Melissa hits another one out of the park! I have made multiple recipes from this site and Every. Single. One. has made my husband’s eyes roll in the back of his head! Thank you for sharing your recipes! My family gets very excited when they hear I’m trying a new recipe from MSSK! This recipe in particular was fabulous as is. I did not have time for sesame seeds, but we didn’t miss them one little bit.
Thank you so much, Morgan. You made my day!
Ive made many slider recipes, but these were the best of them. However, as with other recipes, 12 Hawaiian Rolls are not enough. I could have easily had enough beef for up to 18 rolls. I love Hawaiian Rolls, but maybe a little larger slider bun would work better.
Really? That’s interesting, my family could go even larger. You can always adapt per your personal preference, but, I wouldn’t go less than a pound of ground beef.
